A Methodology that Helps Missouri Implement Energy Savings in Buildings

A team facilitated an interactive study that created a methodology for helping the state of Missouri implement energy-saving measures that can reduce operating costs in its buildings.

Truman State Office Building

HOK, Johnson Controls (facilities energy saving) and Talisen Technologies (software integration) used the 765,000-square-foot Truman State Office Building as a pilot project that the State can use to consider LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance (EB:OM) as a benchmark for its other buildings.

The team collected data from the Truman State Office Building’s operations and maintenance procedures. We compared that data to the LEED-EB:OM criteria to determine the effort and costs required to achieve LEED-EB:OM certification.

The team identified 65 credits as achievable, with a goal of LEED-EB:OM Gold certification. Actions necessary to achieve those credits included building upgrades and a performance period to gather necessary data for the USGBC submission. Our report describes how the State can integrate LEED standards into its existing facilities operation software.
